New Music

I am always working on new music but I’m pretty slow. I do have 2 new CDs in the works though and hopefully they will be released in the next year.

Welcome to my website!

This is a central location with blog posts about my synthesizers and guitars, as well as links to music and photos. Sorry about having to sign up to post comments but without that I get thousands of spam posts every day.

New Effects and Matrix 1000!

April 17, 2013 by admin

I’ve added a couple of new effects recently.

First I got a Boss RE-20. It’s a digital emulation of the original re-201 space echo and man is it awesome!! It’s incredible the sounds you can get out of this thing! If you think it’s just an “echo”, guess again. The echos morph and flange and distort and sustain forever. Coolest effects until I have ever bought!

The second is an Electro-Harmonix Flanger Hoax. I’ve been curious about this thing for a while so I finally got one. It does a nice thru-zero flange effect but it does a lot more complex modulations and it’s going to take a while to get used to it and figure out exactly how and where i can use it.

One other thing I thought I’d mention is this. I turned on my old Oberheim Matrix 1000 for the first time since I got the OB-8 and wow, was I surprised! It’s only a tiny little 1 unit high rack module but it sounds HUGE! In fact, it sounds MUCH better than the OB-8! Much fatter, much better bass, much more punchy. At times it can sound almost like a Prophet 5. I really underestimated the sound of this thing.

I bought the OB6000 editor and after a quick test it seems to work really well but more about that later (especially if it doesn’t work!).

I will say this though; as soon as I tried recording a couple of things with the Matrix I noticed something that I disliked years ago when I was using it. It’s actually TOO fat. It’s hard to get the sounds to sit in a track with other sounds because they take up a huge amount of the audio bandwidth. It’s important to use those ultra-fat sounds sparingly because they can hog the whole mix!

Still thinking about the Euro-rack. I should probably do it but it’s a lot of money!
