New Music

I am always working on new music but I’m pretty slow. I do have 2 new CDs in the works though and hopefully they will be released in the next year.

Welcome to my website!

This is a central location with blog posts about my synthesizers and guitars, as well as links to music and photos. Sorry about having to sign up to post comments but without that I get thousands of spam posts every day.

Dave Smith DSI Prophet REV 2 – 16 voice

July 25, 2022 by admin

In January I got a DSI Tetra and immediately loved the sound. Soon after they announced the REV 2 and I decided that was the one I needed to get. It arrived here at Cosmo Music much sooner than I expected so I drove up there and tried it out. Right away it seemed pretty …

Korg MS-10

July 25, 2022 by admin

I saw a video a little while ago that was demonstrating the Korg MS-20 and briefly he showed the MS-10 filter. It sounded much more beefy than the MS-20! So, of course, I had to get one! For some reason, this eBay seller decided to not ship for almost 3 weeks but he was nice …

New Song: Tokyo Nights – An iPolysix Demo

April 21, 2017 by admin

I posted a new song called Tokyo Nights to Soundcloud Last summer (2016) I got an iPad and installed the Korg iPolysix app on it. It sounds fantastic! Really nice emulation. Unfortunately I don’t have a way to play it right now. I’ll have to get a small keyboard or a MIDI interface at some …

I finally finished the video I was working on for the Polymoog demo Not an exciting video but better than just looking at a black screen.

Gibson Les Paul Standard HP

July 25, 2022 by admin

Another dream comes true! Again it took a long time, about 38 years, but it’s definitely well worth it!My first guitar was a really cheap Les Paul copy (and I still have it! .. what’s left of it) and I’ve always wanted one ever since then but I always get caught up with either the …

Dave Smith Tetra Synthesizer

July 25, 2022 by admin

My newest addition just arrived. The Dave Smith Tetra. I’ve had a Mopho for a while and wasn’t all that happy with it but I’m pretty sure that’s because there’s no front panel. It’s really hard to edit a sound when you have to cycle through every parameter and change them one at a time. …

New Song: Trinitite

January 19, 2017 by admin

Here’s a new song that I did a few years ago. I meant to do more with it but I like the weird feeling it has now so I don’t think I’ll change it. Since I don’t plan on including it on the next CD I decided I’d post it now. This song started as …

Roland VK8M Modification – Add Jack for Rotary Speed Footswitch

July 25, 2022 by admin

After a few years of owning the Roland VK8M I finally got around to adding a jack for a footswitch. It’s very convenient to have both hand free to play the keyboard but still be able to change the rotary speaker speed with a footswitch. I have no idea why this wasn’t in the original …

Korg Minikorg 700

July 25, 2022 by admin

One more new addition to my studio! I couldn’t resist buying this old synthesizer. This was the first one that Korg ever made, the Minikorg 700. The price seemed pretty good and I’ve been seeing them going for much more lately, so like the Arp Axxe I figured I better grab it while it was …

Little Drummer Bot – a Christmas Song

December 22, 2016 by admin

A new song has been posted, although I’m not sure how long it will be there since it is not in the public domain. I really shouldn’t be posting things like this without a performance license but it was just for fun and obviously I’m not going to make a dime from it so I …

Floating Filters – A New Song

December 2, 2016 by admin

A month or so ago I was working on a song I had started in the summer, using the iPolysix app on my iPad. It’s a fairly simple repetitive song done with sequences but it sounded… ok, I guess, so I wanted to just finish it and post it. In the middle of that I …

Polymoog Demo

September 24, 2016 by admin

I have completed fixing the polymoog… for now! Unfortunately I have discovered that it overheats after an hour or so of operation so I will have to do something about the transformer or maybe the whole power supply. Or maybe there is still something wrong causing it to drain a lot more amps that it …

iTunes Does Not See iPhone – Solution

September 25, 2016 by admin

I know this is way off topic but I just spent a lot of time trying to fix this so I thought I’d post this solution somewhere for others. This is as of September of 2016, Windows 10. This applies to the iphone and itunes and the problem is that when you plug the iphone …

Moog Polymoog

July 25, 2022 by admin

Well, I guess it’s time to post this. It was around 1979 when I was first getting interested in synthesizers that I first heard about the Polymoog. I always thought it was an interesting synth and a very cool looking keyboard so, of course, I always wanted one. A LOT! Well that day has finally …

Matrix 6 Fixed!

July 18, 2016 by admin

Well, after a little more investigation I found the real problem with the Matrix 6. In fact, I should have found it right away but I guess I rushed past this. After checking the voltages again I noticed that the +12 volt regulator was actually outputting +18 volts. So with a little more help from …

Prophet 600 and Matrix 6

July 25, 2022 by admin

Well I really don’t need more gear but, well, I just WANT more! But I do use it all so it’s not just sitting around collecting dust. Last week I got one I’d wanted for a long time and it turns out it was a very good purchase: The Sequential Circuits Prophet 600! I have …

Once again, just because it’s still important to me: RIP Isao Tomita. In 1977 I was at a Barrie high school called Eastview. Grade 9 was a lot of fun and a lot of stress but mostly just a whole new adventure after spending the previous 8 years at just one school that sits in …

1950s Electro Voice EV 630 Microphone

May 20, 2016 by admin

Granted I’m not doing any singing or micing of much these days but I do love the sound of old microphones so I got a really nice 1950s EV 630 and it sounds really nice! I love the natural compression these mics have and the frequency response is really nice too. It’s surprising how much …
